A Sharjah Municipality approved pest control company holds a Sharjah trade licence, a certificate or permit from the Municipality for public health pest control, and uses approved products. Always ask for the licence and the product details, and report any company that refuses by calling the Municipality on 993.
This is the short version. The rest of this guide shows how Sharjah differs from Dubai, how to check a company in a few minutes, what businesses must keep on file, which warning signs to watch for and who to contact if you are unsure.
In this guide: what approval means in Sharjah, Sharjah versus Dubai, a 6-step check, rules for shops, restaurants and villas, red flags, pest control measures to expect, paperwork after a visit, and FAQs.
1. What approval means in Sharjah
Sharjah Municipality has said it regulates pest control licensing closely to reduce the risk of illegal chemicals being used. Its director general has stated that pesticide companies must obtain a certificate from the Municipality and a commercial licence from the Sharjah Economic Development Department before they start operating, and that the Municipality inspects companies frequently. In practice, a company serving Sharjah should be able to show:
- A valid Sharjah commercial (trade) licence for pest control, from the Sharjah Economic Development Department.
- A Municipality permit for the activity of combating public health pests.
- Approved pesticides. The company should be able to name what it will use and show that it is approved for use.
- Trained staff who know how to handle and apply pesticides safely.
The Municipality’s public health and pest control teams also deal with the health requirements for food premises, which is why shops and restaurants have extra paperwork (see section 5).

2. Sharjah and Dubai are not the same
Many guides copy Dubai rules into Sharjah pages. That is a mistake. Each emirate has its own authority, so approval in one does not automatically cover the other.

| Dubai | Sharjah | |
|---|---|---|
| Authority | Dubai Municipality, Public Health Pest Control Section | Sharjah Municipality, with a trade licence from the Sharjah Economic Development Department |
| Approval route | No Objection Certificate (NOC) before the trade licence | Municipality certificate or permit plus a Sharjah commercial licence |
| Published company groups | Companies grouped A, B and C by number of qualified staff in a dated PDF list | Check directly with the Municipality. Do not assume the Dubai grouping applies |
| Call centre | 800900 | 993 (to report companies or ask questions) |
| Business paperwork | Contract, service reports and logbook for food premises | Municipality-attested pest control contract and visit record for businesses |

3. How to check a company before you book in Sharjah
Use this six-step check. It takes about ten minutes and works for any company, including ours.
Step 1: Ask for the company name and trade licence number
A genuine company will give you its registered name and licence number without hesitation. Check that the licence is active, covers pest control, and that the name matches the quotation and invoice. A company that has only a phone number and a brand name is a warning sign.
Step 2: Ask for the Municipality permit
Ask to see the Sharjah Municipality permit or certificate for public health pest control and check the company name and the dates. If the company says “applied, waiting”, it is not yet approved.
Step 3: Ask which products will be used
Ask for the product name and active ingredient, and for safety information if you have children, pets, a pregnant family member or someone with asthma. The Municipality has urged residents to ask for the company’s licence and the licence of the materials used. “It is a special chemical” is not an answer.
Step 4: Check the technician on arrival
Ask for the technician’s name and ID, and for proof of training in handling pesticides if the company has it. Technicians should wear protective equipment such as a mask, gloves and overalls. If the person refuses to show any ID, do not let work start.
Step 5: Ask for a written quotation and service report
Get a written quote that states the pests, areas, methods, visits and warranty. After the job, ask for a signed service report (see section 7).
Step 6: Call the Municipality if you are unsure
The Municipality has asked residents to report companies that cannot show their licence by calling 993. You can also use that line to ask whether a company is licensed.

| What to check | What to ask | A good answer looks like | A red flag looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trade licence | “What is your licence number?” | Number given and matches the quote | Gives only a mobile number |
| Municipality permit | “Can I see your Sharjah Municipality permit?” | Permit shown, name and dates match | “Applied, waiting” or an old photo |
| Products | “What exactly will you use?” | Product name, active ingredient, safety info | Unlabelled bottles, vague answers |
| Technician | “Can I see your ID?” | ID shown on arrival, protective equipment worn | No ID, no protection |
| Paperwork | “Will I get a service report?” | Signed report after the visit | “No need, trust us” |

4. Shops, restaurants and villas: what each needs in Sharjah
Sharjah shops, restaurants and food businesses
Food premises must meet the Municipality’s health requirements, and a pest control contract approved by the Municipality is part of the paperwork for food establishments. The Municipality also provides a service for businesses to record or amend a contract with an approved pest control company. The documents it asks for include:
- A copy of the pest control contract, stamped by both the pest control company and the customer.
- The record of pest control visits, stamped by both parties.
- A copy of the trade licence of the customer’s business and of the pest control company.
- A copy of the last permit issued by the Municipality.
The service also requires that the business holds a valid commercial licence in Sharjah and that the pest control company has the permit for public health pest control. Keep this file where inspectors can see it. For the full business checklist, see our guide to commercial pest control in Dubai and Sharjah.
Sharjah villas and homes
Homes do not need a Municipality contract, but the same checks protect you: licence, permit, products and a written report. Villas also bring termite and fumigation questions. Those treatments carry higher risk, so ask for clear information about the method, the products, how long to stay out and when it is safe to return.

5. Red flags of unlicensed pest control in Sharjah
- Door flyers and unknown WhatsApp numbers. The Municipality has warned residents not to contact or trust companies that leave advertisements on doors.
- No licence or permit shown, or a licence that does not match the company name.
- A price far below everyone else quoted without anyone seeing the property.
- No inspection before spraying or fumigating.
- Unlabelled or decanted chemicals and strong smells that last for days.
- Fumigation without a safety plan. Fumigation must use approved products and clear instructions about evacuation and re-entry. Following a fatal fumigation incident in Sharjah, the Municipality urged residents to make sure the company they hire is licensed and uses approved chemicals that are safe.
- No protective equipment on technicians.
- Pressure tactics, such as “today-only” prices or cash-only payment.
- No written report and no written warranty.

6. Pest control measures a licensed company should follow in Sharjah
- Inspect first and identify the pest before treating.
- Use targeted treatment rather than spraying every room.
- Use approved products and name them to you.
- Protect people: staff wear protective equipment, children, pets and food are protected, and you are told how long to stay out.
- Give aftercare advice, such as when to ventilate, wipe surfaces and re-enter.
- Follow up to check that the pests have actually gone.
- Keep records of every visit.
After each treatment, you should receive a signed service report that includes:
- Date, time and your address or unit number.
- Pests found and areas treated.
- Products used (name and active ingredient) and the method.
- Technician name and ID, and the company licence number.
- Safety instructions and the next follow-up date.
- Warranty terms in writing, and the customer signature.

8. Frequently asked questions
How do I check if a pest control company is approved in Sharjah?
Ask for the trade licence number and the Sharjah Municipality permit, ask which products will be used, check the technician’s ID on arrival and ask for a service report. If you are unsure, call the Municipality on 993.
Where can I find approved pest control companies in Sharjah?
The Municipality has previously said that licensed companies can be found on its website, but we could not confirm a currently published public company list. The safest method is to ask the company for its licence and permit and verify with the Municipality directly on 993.
Is Dubai Municipality approval valid in Sharjah?
Not automatically. Each emirate has its own authority and requirements. Ask the company which emirates it is licensed to work in.
Do restaurants and shops in Sharjah need an approved pest control contract?
Food premises are expected to hold a pest control contract approved by the Municipality and keep records of visits. Check the current requirements for your licence type with the Municipality.
What should I do if a company refuses to show its licence?
Do not let them start. The Municipality has asked residents to report companies that decline to show their licence by calling 993.
Is fumigation more risky than normal pest control?
Yes. Fumigation uses gases that can be dangerous if the wrong product or method is used. Only use a licensed company, ask for the product and the safety plan, and do not return until you are told it is safe.
Are pest control treatments safe for children and pets?
Professional treatments are designed for use in homes when applied correctly and when aftercare instructions are followed. Tell the technician about children, pets, pregnancy and breathing problems before the visit.
What if I already hired an unlicensed company?
Ask for their licence and the products used. If they cannot provide them, stop further treatments, ventilate the property and call 993 for advice. A licensed company can then inspect and correct the work.
